RAOKing

This morning Tracy and I went to Starbucks to perform some RAOK's. It was great. I went first and asked the guy in front of me if I could buy his coffee. He almost jumped back 3 feet because i actually talked to him and then when i offered to buy his coffee he was very confused. I explained to him that i attended Destiny Church and we are doing random acts of kindness. I handed him a RAOK card and he agreed. Still a little taken back, he looked at the card I bet 5 times while waiting for his coffee. Before he left he walked up to me, smiled and said thanks. Tracy was next. She caught two ladies in line and offered to buy their coffee and they couldn't understand why so she handed them a RAOK card and they said they were from North Vegas and were just passing through but told her they had never heard of anything like this before. They wouldn't let her buy their coffee and told her to buy someone's else's that lived down here but kept the card and commented again how bizarre it was and that they had never heard of something like this. So we sat down and we said we would wait for "the" lady to come in. In just a few min. she walked in. Tracy offered to buy her coffee and the lady was very confused until Tracy told her why and gave her a card. Come to find out she works for safe key at the same school we meet in. There is something significant to this for those of you who know the history here. God is awesome!!! How is your RAOKing going???

Hey everyone, here are some of the RAOK that I've been doing this week.

As most of you know, I'm a server at Red Robin (YUM)lol Well, yesterday I decided to pay for this lady's lunch that came in by herself. Unfortunatly she ended up leaving money anyway and didn't take the card. I'm guessing she was a bitter old lady since she came in alone and left with a scowl on her face. So I thought "I'll just try it again." I paid for this other cute couple's lunch and they actually waved me over to the table and asked why I was doing this and I told them and they were like, "You don't have to do this, we live in north las vegas so we won't even be able to come." I told them not to worry about it. So they said thank you, tipped me, and left. That same night I was at Stephan's and he told me he was going to help some people move stuff out of this lady's apartment. So I decided to help him. Just so you all know, this lady left her apartment in horrifying conditions. I've never seen anything like this. Were talkin, you couldn't see the floor because soo much stuff was on it, like trash, mcdonalds, toys, dirty diapers, dog poop. The entire carpet needs to be replaced because there are stains all over the place. I literally almost threw up picking things up in that place. Apparently the lady had 4 kids and her husband just left her. I felt sooo bad. I can't imagine how unbelievably hard that must be. Anyway Stephan ended up just before we left leaving the family the RAOK cards and it turns out the family lives right by the Elementary school and the guys wife has been looking for a non-denominational church. Stephan and I thought that was so awesome. My next RAOK I plan on doing is baking a cake for one of Stephan's neighbors that helped us move Stephan's stuff into his place when he first got here. He also helped me jump my car a few times. Anyway, I can't wait to see the results from all this. It's crazy to see how shocked people are when you try and do something good for them. lol It's also a sad shock of reality. It's sad that it's so rare for anyone to reach out and want to do something good for someone they don't even know. I'm glad Destiny is doing something to change it!

Way to go Pastor T!
Kudo's to you to Meera & Stephan. ;)

They say "the 3rd times a charm," however, I think all of my ROAK's have been AWESOME!!!
That being said...

My 3rd ROAK:
Everyday when I take off for work I pass by an elderly man named Isaac that volunteers as an elementary school crossing guard. He is always posted ready and waiting to ensure that our leaders of tomorrow make it safely across the street to school. Talk about a wonderful way to volunteer! ;) I decided to make Isaac my 3rd ROAK selection. With the help of Clarissa supplying me with 2 bottles of water and a couple granola bars (thanks babe!), I stopped behind Isaac's car this morning. He was dusting his car while waiting for the kiddies. I jumped out of my car with the goodies, told him I was with Destiny Church and that he was being ROAK'd. :) In addition, I told him that I specifically selected him due to his selfless dedication. I went on to tell him that I truly appreciate him and the job he does for all his children. He was very thankful and sent me on my way with a "God Bless You!!!" Needless to say, it warmed my heart. :):):)

On a side note-
I still remember my school crossing guard. Her name was Shirley. Shirley ALWAYS greeted me with the bigeest smile. I am thankful that Shirley got me safely to school... ;)

"Everything is ROAKee dokee."

Okay so I didn't have a chance to actually hear the sermon that preceded this event but my wife explained it to me. It's really fantastic and I wanted to share my experience.

I went to McDonald's today and when I got into the line at the drive-through, a car pulled in behind me. Perfect ROAK moment! So I gave my order and then went on to the payment window. I asked the girl if I could pay for the car behind me. She looked startled by it, at first, and said, "I need to go get my manager." You would think generosity wouldn't require managerial approval these days. So she goes and gets the manager.

"What do you want to do sir?" she asked.

"I'd like to pay for the man behind me, I want to buy his lunch."

"So you want to pay for your lunch and his lunch?" she said.

"Yes, I want to pay for both and if you could just give him this card and tell him it's been taken care of." She took the card and then started to ring us both up.

"Yours is $5.27 and his is," she stops and her eyes go wide, "$18.13!" She said it was though that would somehow dissuade me.

"That's fine, just ring him up," I said with a smile. So she runs my card and then I pull forward.

I watched as my ROAK victim pulled forward and she handed him a paid for receipt and a ROAK card. He looked at the receipt, asked her something, looked up towards me, looked back at the card, up towards me. Then he started to pull forward and leaned his head out the window.

"Hey thanks buddy!" he shouted. He sounded genuinely surprised and pleased. Based on his lunch total either he was hungry or he was buying for a group. Destiny Church touched people today and made kindness and generosity a little more commonplace.

Not sure if this is considered an raok or not, but it certainly touched me. This evening my 8 year old daughter wanted to know what I had a baby bottle for and as soon as I started explaining it to her she started to walk away to her room. All she needed to hear was change to help others. She came out of her room a few minutes later with the bottle 3/4 of the way full and an empty piggy back. Amazing that she has nothing in her bank and she is extremely happy and proud of herself. It certainly make that generosity message sink in!!

So I got my Raok on today!!! I didn't do so well last week, as I couldn't seem to keep up with the cards. So to make up for it I started with a Bang on Monday.

First I picked up a Starbucks card to take with me to Walmart. After I did all my shopping I bought my stuff, the cashier was a very nice woman who was very helpful since I had the Posey four with me while I was shopping, anyway after I paid,I gave her the giftcard to Starbucks and told her what church I went to and all about the Random Acts of Kindness. She smiled and said thank you so much and God bless you! It was very exciting to be able to make someone smile and bring a little brightness to their day.

But wait thats not all! I also purchased a Wal-mart giftcard, I had to stop by the bathroom for the boys before we left. I spotted a woman with two young daughters getting out a grocery list. I got the walmart gift card out along with my RAOK card and told her as well about the church and that I wanted to give her this giftcard. She seemed surprised I talked to her and then when I gave her the giftcard and told her the amount, she smiled incredulously at me and said thank you so much!

It was a very exciting day, and even better was that it made an impression on my boys, so not only was it a blessing to see others blessed, it was also a blessing to know my kids were able to see this and learn something from this experience.

RAOKing is Awesome!
